CEE HISTORY

KEAM, short for Kerala Engineering Agricultural Medical is an entrance examination series for admissions to various professional degree courses in the state of Kerala, India. It is conducted by the Office of the Commissioner of Entrance Exams run by the Government of Kerala.

KEAM is probably the only entrance test series in India that is conducted by a State Government directly. In all other states, entrance examinations are conducted by a state run university. This is because in Kerala, there are various state run universities such as University of KeralaCochin University of Science and TechnologyMahatma Gandhi UniversityUniversity of CalicutKerala Agricultural University and Kannur University. To these universities several colleges are affiliated who also take in students based on KEAM scores.

Engineering courses
Students are tested on topics of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics taught in the 11th and 12th grade Kerala State Education Board Higher Secondary Examinations and similar boards and national boards such as Central Board of Secondary Education and Indian Certificate of Secondary Education. The entrance exam is in two parts. Part I is Mathematics and Part II is Physics andChemistry.

Medical courses
This is similar to the Medical Entrance Tests conducted by AIIMS.

Architectural courses
Architectural courses according to the Office of the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations, Kerala as in clause 1.4b of the prospectus [2] is ranked based on National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA), conducted by the National Institute of Advanced Studies in Architecture (NIASA) as per directives of the Council of Architecture, India.

The KEAM 2006 was scheduled to be held from 24–29 April 2006. But, owing to general elections in the state of Kerala, it has been postponed and is now rescheduled to be held from the 15–21 May 2006.
According to the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, the examinations will be held at 182 schools across Kerala as well as at the Kerala Education Society Senior Secondary School inNew Delhi and at the Indian High School, Dubai.[8] The Engineering Exam will be conducted at 183 centres, the medical exams at 168 centres and architectural exams at select 16 centres. The exams will begin at all centres, including Dubai at 1000 hrs IST. As many as 81,992 students are appearing for KEAM '06, compared to last year's 69,962. Thiruvananthapuram has the highest number of candidates, 12,291. Ernakulam comes second with 10,977 and Thrissur comes at third spot with 9,472 candidates. Wayanad district has the lowest number of candidates within Kerala (892) while the New Delhi centre has 376 students.[8]
